LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Tired of shaving, waxing or using depilatory creams? Is your hair growth causing you embarrassment? Want to save time on hair reduction? Then let us reduce it for you with Laser Hair Removal for a longer period... or permanently!

We offer several ways of permanently reducing unwanted hair. You will find a multitude of laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machines on the market, but most of these are not powerful enough to successfully and permanently remove all the hair you desire. Effective laser hair removal and reduction depends on careful assessment and analysis of your skin and hair colour, as well as the type of hair you would like reduced (thin vs thick). Our machines are the latest and most effective available and our professional staff can individually assess your hair and skin types to ensure you will achieve the best possible results.

Medium-term Hair Reduction

MEDIUM-TERM HAIR REDUCTION

Waxing

  • Concern: Unwanted hair
  • Solution: White, red, grey and very thin (velous) hair, as well as eyebrow hair, cannot be removed by laser or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machines, therefore waxing is the ultimate solution. Also, if you have very tanned skin, lasers and IPLs will be less effective, making waxing a better option. A special warm wax is placed on the area where the hair is to be reduced. Once attached to the hair follicles, it is lifted off quickly to remove the hair from the roots. Hair regrowth is finer over time and soft, not 'prickly' as it is after shaving. The results also last much longer than shaving - about 4-6 weeks compared to 1-3 days.
  • Time: 10-30 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area being waxed. You require ongoing sessions every 4-6 weeks, due to hair regrowth.

  • Recovery: Overnight, due to slight redness

What is it?

Waxing is a method of medium-term hair reduction. White, red, grey and very thin (velous) hair, as well as eyebrow hair, cannot be removed by laser or IPL, therefore waxing is the ultimate solution. Also, if you have very tanned skin, lasers and IPLs will be less effective, making waxing a better option.

Which areas can be treated?

All areas of the face and body can be waxed.

Is it safe?

Waxing is completely safe when it is performed by the right hands. In the wrong hands, you can experience burning and skin damage. The clinicians at the Facial Rejuvenation Clinic are highly trained in waxing techniques.

How does it work?

The wax adheres to the hair follicles so, when the wax is pulled off, the hairs come away with the wax.

How long does my hair have to be?

Your hair will need to be 6mm to 12mm long, so that the wax can adhere well to the hair.

What happens during the procedure?

If using warm wax: The wax is spread over the area chosen for hair reduction. Once slightly set, it is quickly pulled off by the operator, along with the hair.

If using wax strips: The strips are applied to the area chosen for hair reduction. The operator will vigorously rub the strip to cause heat, helping it attach to the hair follicles. It is then quickly pulled off, along with the hair.

In both methods you will experience a short sting as the hair is removed, especially on the more sensitive areas such as the bikini area and underarms. However, with a skilful operator, you should experience minimal discomfort.

How long does the procedure take?

10-30 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area treated.

How long will my recovery be and what can I expect?

Recovery is immediate, though the area may be a little red and sensitive for a few hours.

Is there any after care?

For the first 24 hours, avoid the sun, exfoliation and tight clothing as these can irritate the area.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience ingrown hairs (also known as razor bumps). An ingrown hair is a hair that curls back on itself and starts growing into the surrounding skin instead of straight out of the hair shaft. It is usually just a minor irritation and can look similar to a pimple, but it can cause irritation or become infected if left untreated. Regular exfoliation of the area or use of glycolic or vitamin A products can help prevent ingrown hairs.

How long will it last?

About 4-6 weeks, after which time you will need waxing again, due to hair regrowth. Over time, the hair will look and feel finer.

PERMANENT LASER HAIR REDUCTION

Starlux 500 IPL

  • Concern: Unwanted hair
  • Solution: We have selected the Starlux 500 IPL as it is the most powerful and quickest of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machines on all skin colours. To permanently reduce hair by destroying the hair bulb, the base of the hair follicle needs to be heated to more than 70°C. Most other IPL machines don't generate sufficient power, surface cooling and appropriate wavelengths to create enough heat to permanently destroy the hair bulb in all skin colours. The Starlux 500 IPL also produces the most comfortable hair reduction of all IPL machines on the market due to its efficient cooling system and speed of treatment.
  • Time: 5-60 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area targeted. Hair reduction with the Starlux 500 IPL requires a third to half the time to complete each treatment compared to most other IPL machines. Also, due to its power and effectiveness, fewer treatments will be needed. You require 4-8 sessions over about 12 months due to hair growth stages.
  • Recovery: Immediate or overnight, depending on the area treated.

What is it?

The Starlux 500 IPL is a proven means of permanent hair reduction and is the most powerful and quickest of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machines. To permanently remove hair by destroying the hair bulb, the base of the hair follicle needs to be heated to more than 70°C. Most other IPL machines don't generate sufficient power, surface cooling and appropriate wavelengths to create enough heat to permanently destroy the hair bulb in all skin colours. The Starlux 500 IPL also produces the most comfortable and effective hair reduction of all IPL machines on the market due to its efficient cooling system and speed of treatment.

Which areas can be treated?

All areas of the face and body can be treated. Even sensitive areas, such as the bikini, chest and back are treated quickly and relatively pain-free. As the light technology targets the pigment in the hair, the darker your hair and lighter the surrounding skin, the more effective it will be. You can still be treated if you have light hair or dark skin, but you will most likely need a greater number of treatments. The treatment is fairly ineffective on grey or white hair.

Is it safe?

As with any type of IPL therapy, the procedure is completely safe when delivered responsibly. The clinicians at the Facial Rejuvenation Clinic are highly trained in using the Starlux 500 IPL.

How does it work?

A wavelength of light heats the melanin in the base of the hair follicle, permanently destroying the hair bulb. The feeder blood vessels to the hair bulb are also destroyed.

Do I need to prepare the area before I'm treated?

The area is shaved before treatment, so there is no need to grow hair prior to treatment. Avoid tanning (using the sun, solarium or fake tan) for 4-6 prior to treatment, as darker skin is more difficult to treat. And don't pluck, wax or use electrolysis or a depilatory cream for at least 4-6 weeks before treatment. Shaving is ok.

What happens during the procedure?

The head of the machine is passed over the area to be treated delivering heat. As the hair is shaven, the heat only targets the hair bulb and does not burn the skin. The treatment is less painful than waxing - in fact, the Starlux 500 IPL delivers effective cooling to the surface of the skin, making it the least painful of all IPL machines, especially when used on sensitive areas.

How long does the procedure take?

5-60 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area targeted. Hair reduction with the Starlux 500 IPL requires a third to half the time to complete each treatment. Due to its power and effectiveness, fewer treatments will be required compared to most other IPL machines. You require 4-8 sessions over about 12 months, due to hair growth stages and the area targeted.

How long will my recovery be and what can I expect?

Recovery is immediate or overnight, depending on the size and location of the treatment. The area may be a little red for a few hours.

Is there any after care?

For the first 24 hours, avoid the sun, exfoliation and tight clothing as these can irritate the area. Your hair should not be waxed or tweezed during the treatment period as this encourages hair growth and strength. But you may shave, bleach or trim the area.

How long will Laser hair removal last?

The technology is superior, therefore hair reduction is permanent, so long as the procedure is performed correctly and all growth stages are treated. The professionals at the Facial Rejuvenation Clinic can ensure you get the best result.

Electrolysis

  • Concern: Stubborn-to-remove hair on the face, including the ears, chin, top lip and eyebrows, hair around the nipple, hormonal hair
  • Solution: A proven means of permanent hair reduction, electrolysis has been around for more than 100 years. It works by using heat to destroy the dermal papilla (from which the hair grows) via a probe inserted into the hair shaft. This method of hair reduction is not appropriate for large areas, as it is conducted follicle by follicle, but works well on small areas.
  • Time: 15-60 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area treated. You will require 3-4 sessions over about 12 months, due to hair growth stages.
  • Recovery: 0 days

What is it?

Electrolysis is a proven means of permanent hair reduction. All hair types and colours can be successfully treated, including hormonal hair. Due to the nature of the technique - the hair is removed follicle by follicle - this method of hair reduction is not appropriate for large areas.

Which areas can be treated?

Electrolysis works well on small areas on the face including the eyebrows, chin, nose, upper lip and ears. But the most common area treated is around the nipples.

Is it safe?

Electrolysis has been around for more than 100 years without any adverse effect. There is no risk of scarring or other marks if the service is provided by a professional.

How does it work?

Heat in the form of electricity is used to destroy the dermal papilla (from which the hair grows).

How long does my hair have to be?

Hair of 4mm to 6mm is ideal so that the clinician can see and follow the shaft to its base.

What happens during the procedure?

An instrument with a probe is inserted into the hair shaft, then a zap of electricity is applied to the base of the shaft. It is not painful - modern electrolysis methods have reduced the discomfort to a mere tingling. A topical anaesthetic may be used in some cases.

How long does the procedure take?

15-60 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area treated. As hair grows in
3-month cycles, you will need 3-4 repeat procedures over 12 months to achieve permanent hair reduction of all hair in the desired area.

How long will my recovery be and what can I expect?

Recovery is immediate, though the area may be a little red a swollen for up to a few days.

Is there any after care?

For the first 24 hours, avoid the heat, sun, exfoliation and strenuous exercise as this can irritate the area. Your hair should not be waxed or tweezed during the treatment period as this encourages hair growth and strength. But you may shave, bleach, trim or use a depilatory cream.

Are there any side effects?

Most side effects of electrolysis are mild but can include redness, swelling, blisters, scabs, dryness and ingrown hairs. Redness and swelling should dissipate in a few days. Poorly performed electrolysis hair reduction can cause lasting skin damage and can also spread infections, however the clinicians at the Facial Rejuvenation Clinic are highly trained on the procedure.

How long will it last?

Hair reduction permanent, so long as the procedure is performed correctly and all growth stages are treated. The professionals at the Facial Rejuvenation Clinic can ensure you get the best result.
